Hello all, my name is Sarah. I’m from just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I’m short, loud and have no previous fund-raising experience.

I live with my best friend and my beautiful puppy Jambi – she’s 12 weeks old and the most fabulous thing that has ever happened to me.

I love my mother dearly and am blessed to be born to such a fabulous and strong woman.

I’m 22 and finished Media in college and took English in university.

Meet Sarah Parsons

Where are you from?

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

What made you want to go to Haiti?

I had been looking to go to Africa, and do something there but It is difficult to find non profit groups that are not based on religion. That was not the type of work I was interested in being a part of, not because I think there is anything wrong with religion just because it is not what I personally believe. So when I found Random Act (via YouTube) I thought “Hey, these guys sound like they just want to help. No strings attached”. I surfed the website a little and though it sounded like something I would like to be a part of. So in answer to this question Random Acts made me want to go to Haiti, it hadn’t been my original idea, but they easily persuaded me.
What are you hoping to get out of the experience?

Just the experience. To help and to learn, to see things from the other side. Oh and a killer tan.

How did you approach the task of raising $5000?

Messaged everyone I knew – 700 people on Facebook plus everyone I work with and asked family/friends if they could spread the word for me as well.

What are a few of your best fundraising tips?

Don’t be afraid to ask, the worst someone can say is no.

Can you offer any words of encouragement to those still working towards their fundraising goal?

Don’t give up. If I can do it, then anyone can – believe me.
